Mario Kart Tour will no longer be receiving new content after the update next month, according to Nintendo.
A new notice reads: “No new courses, drivers, karts, or gliders will be added following the Battle Tour starting 04/10/2023.”
Although there will be no longer be new content for the beloved mobile game, the game servers are expected to remain online for the foreseeable future.
As of now, Mario Kart Tour will continue to receive new content in the next 2 tours before the halting of new content following the update on October 4th:
- September 20th: Anniversary Tour
- October 4th: Battle Tour
Moving forward, Mario Kart Tour would reuse content for their tours, with tours only consisting of content that already exists in-game.
Originally released in 2019, and has featured content updates from previous mainline Mario Kart installments.
While this could point to signs of Nintendo slowly exiting the mobile gaming space, such as with the shut down of Dragalia Lost, titles such as Fire Emblem Heroes and Pokémon GO are still going strong.
As somber as this news might seem, players can still find some joy, as we could see all of the exclusive Mario Kart Tour courses being preserved in Wave 6 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2023, allowing players to experience them once again on their Nintendo Switch.
