One of them more visually stunning games that we had the pleasure of experiencing at Busan Indie Connect 2023 (BIC23) was undoubtedly PIO.
PIO is a roguelike action game which captivates you with its beauty as you hop on boxes to defeat enemies.
While you’ll encounter enemies to battle, your character won’t directly engage in combat.
Instead, the unique attacking approach involves leaping onto specific boxes on the platform in order to deal damage to enemies.
Another interesting aspect of the boxes is that not all of them are designed solely for dealing damage to enemies; some come with additional abilities such as allowing you to dash in a specific direction provide healing effects or even destroy all the other boxes in its row.
There will also be various enemy types for you to face in the game, which will be crucial in keeping the gameplay loop feeling fresh and engaging.
PIO’s art direction is also truly admirable, showcasing beautiful visuals that resemble characters from Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy.
The game’s captivating music further enhances the immersive experience, setting a mesmerizing tone that’s hard to resist.
But one fascinating thing you should know about the game’s production is that it is not made by a whole studio, but is actually by college students for their College Graduation portfolio.
The game is planned for release later this year on Steam.
