Planned for a release in 2018, Code Vein is an upcoming action role-playing video game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. During the recent Taipei Game Show 2018, we (along with other press) are lucky to be able to interview the 2 producers of Code Vein – Yosuke Tomizawa and Keita Iizuka. Check out what they have told us in the interview below!
About the gameplay of Code Vein
The producers explained to us that at the beginning of Code Vein, the characters (aka Revenant) have all lost their memory and will need to find the memory crystal called “Blood Vein” in order to retrieve their past memory (when they still lived as a human). Although Revenant doesn’t really need to eat in order to survive, they still eat to maintain humanity in them.
While in the game, there is a Buddy system where you can build up your relationship with other characters by adventuring together. As you get closer to a character, you will be able to experience more of his/her story thus develop a richer storyline for your game as well as getting more items or Blood Code.
Every character has their favourites and by giving them the things they like, you will be able to increase your relationship level with them. There will be only 5 buddies available in the game, therefore the producers hope that players would pay more attention in developing their relationship with the buddies to discover more of the vast content.
Someone noticed that the actions in the latest demo are more straightforward compared to the previous demos, the producers respond by saying that they have listened to the players’ opinions after showcasing a demo during TGS (Tokyo Game Show), and have made some adjustment on the game to be more fast-paced. Since different outfits come with different weapons, the actions and speed will be different as well, you can choose your outfit according to your preference.
About the game world in Code Vein
On TpGS 18, the official has revealed a new location – “Firefall Street” with scene damage. In response to the concern about whether the novices would be pressured (to the difficulty of new location), the producers reassured us by saying that “Firefall Street” only appears in the latter half of game map. Players will be able to get prepared with useful items and equipment obtainable from the easier missions before challenging the harder missions.
We talked about the characters having their favourites earlier, one of the character’s favourite is Pizza and this is why we will see Domino Pizza’s logo in the game. When asked about the possibility of collaborating with Domino Pizza, the producers smiled and tell us that there is no plan for a collaboration yet, but players may take on the challenge to eat pizza while playing the game. As an addition, Code Vein is having a similar world with us and one of the similar element is pizza.
The difference between Code Vein and other works
Those who have seen Code Vein would think that it is sharing some similarities with the Dark Souls series. Comparing the difficulty of Code Vein to Dark Souls‘, the producers responded by saying that although both the game is having the same genre and high difficulty level, Code Vein is different as it is having a Buddy system so players will never fight alone. The development of Code Vein is almost finished and they have adjusted the difficulty too, they guaranteed to make players satisfied with the final product.
We all know that Code Vein and God Eater are from the same development team, but will the players enjoy Code Vein like how they enjoyed God Eater? The producers tell us that both the game are different, one focuses on Boss Raid while the another focuses on exploring. However since the difficulty will be 2 stars (at most) and you will be having a Buddy for help, the game won’t be too difficult to complete. Besides, as both the game are from the same development team, there is a possibility for a collaboration between Code Vein and God Eater!
If the missions are too difficult for you, you can also level up to smoothen your mission progress. Compared to the usual hardcore video games, Code Vein would prefer to attract players with its storyline. There will be different ending according to the choices you made too.
Graphics Quality of Code Vein
Using the normal consoles, Code Vein will be having a graphics quality up to 1080p/30FPS while PS4 Pro, Xbox One X or high-end computers can run up to 1080/60FPS. There is no plan for an optimization up to 4K for now.
These are all of our interview with Yosuke Tomizawa and Keita Iizuka! Code Vein will be available for PS4, Xbox One and PC within this year, you can visit their official website for more information. Special thanks to Plextor who gave us the chance to attend TpGS 2018 live!
