Bungie has announced that Keith David will be the new voice actor for Commander Zavala in Destiny 2, going forward.
The announcement comes 4 months after the untimely passing of the character’s original voice actor, Lance Reddick.
In an official statement, Bungie states “The passion and professionalism Lance brought to the role over the last decade was unmistakable and loved by all. Lance’s iconic voice led us through the most intense moments in Destiny’s history and his impact on our Guardians, our community, and Bungie as a whole will never be forgotten”.
Lance Reddick was universally loved by the Destiny 2 community; many players even held in-game tributes for him shortly after news of his passing.
To honor the late Lance Reddick’s work, Bungie also states Destiny 2 will keep his existing in-game lines as Commander Zavala untouched.
Keith David will be brought in to continue Commander Zavala’s journey into The Final Shape DLC, which is expected to be released early 2024.
“I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work” David said in a video on his personal Twitter account.
Keith David is a prolific actor whose talent has spanned multiple mediums, including television, film, and games.
Some of his most famous works include voicing Sergeant Foley in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and playing General Kimsey in Michael Bay’s 1998 sci-fi blockbuster, Armageddon.
