Tea restaurant KOI The has clarified that while the business itself lacks Halal certification, the ingredients used to prepare the drinks are, ahead of their Honkai Star Rail collaboration next week.
This was in response to some queries on social media that KOI The beverages are not Halal, meaning Muslim fans would not be able to take part in the upcoming event.
In a statement to GamerBraves, a representative clarified that “All ingredients used in KOI are halal certified in its country of origin“.
UPDATE: KOI The has given further explanation on their ingredients, as below:
“All our ingredients are halal certified in their respective country of origin (including but not limited to Taiwan, Ireland, Malaysia, Africa), but for KOI we have yet to obtain JAKIM halal certificate in Malaysia”, the statement reads.
Many Malaysian Muslims are very familiar with the grey area that many restaurants operate in- while Halal Certification can only be granted by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) or its state counterparts, many more are still Muslim-Friendly by virtue of using Halal ingredients.
With the high population of Muslims around the world, many countries have their own Halal certification system to allow Muslims to safely consume products without any fear of contradicting their religions.
Given the popularity of Honkai Star Rail in the country, it’s safe to assume next week’s event is set to be a big one for KOI The, which has branches all over SEA.
The event also features various Honkai Star Rail themed collectibles, such as stickers and coasters as well as in-game rewards.
