Sonic Origins Plus, a DLC expansion containing additional content for the retro game collection that came out last year, was released today, on June 23rd, 2023.
Both physical and digital versions will be available for the PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Only digital versions will be available for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Sonic Origins is a digitally remastered collection of the Sega Genesis Sonic games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic 3 and Knuckles. They also come with a whole host of new additional elements, including support for a 16:9 aspect ratio.
New features that were added with the Sonic Origins Plus Expansion include making Amy Rose a playable character. Knuckles is also now available as a playable character in Sonic CD.
12 Sega Game Gear titles have also been added, which include the following:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Sonic Chaos
- Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble
- Sonic Drift
- Sonic Drift 2
- Sonic Spinball
- Tails Adventure
- Sonic Labyrinth
- Sonic Blast
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- Tails’ Skypatrol
With Sonic the Hedgehog for the Game Gear, you can enjoy unique stages and soundtracks that are different from those in the Sega Genesis version. Also, two-player matches are now possible in Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2, and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine.
The prices for the digital versions of the “Sonic Origins Plus Expansion Pack” will differ depending on the platform.
Sonic Origins Plus is available for Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
