Earlier this year, Tencent has announced an official licensed Attack on Titan mobile game which will be featuring contents from the first season of Attack on Titan anime. The mobile game has been showcased during Taipei Game Show 2018 where we are lucky to be able to try it out so here is our first impression of Attack on Titan – Dedicate Your Heart!
Firstly, the game showcased on a full-view display is graphically stunning. As you can see from the gameplay video, the single-player mode that we first tried requires you to form a team with 5 characters and raid Titans (probably 3 for every level). The gameplay is simple, you only need to perform QTE action in order to attack the Titans. However, I didn’t expect it to be rhythmic (requires players to press a button at a specific timing for higher damage) so it is quite refreshing for me.
Familiar characters such as Eren, Mikasa and Armin are all featured in their original (Japanese) sound cast. Characters are separated into 3 classes – Control, DPS and Support, each of them is having a unique ultimate attack. Besides, there is a story mode where you will watch cinematic cutscenes. Following the story of the main protagonists in AoT anime season 1, you will also perform some QTE action according to the storyline. With the gorgeous graphics. I did enjoy watching the cutscenes.
Just like most of the MMORPGs out there, you can collect and upgrade characters, then equips them with upgradeable equipment. Forming a team prompt you to select 5 characters, each attacking a specific area of the Titan. Several character combinations will activate chain combo so you have to plan strategically. Mounts that gives out bonus stats when you upgrade them are available too. You can also tame Titans and bring them to join the campsite raid.
Without comparing it to the console version (it is a mobile game after all), Attack on Titan – Dedicate Your Heart is actually having an interesting gameplay with rhythmic QTE actions. There is plenty of features to keep you busy and if you enjoy AoT anime, the story mode allows you to experience the story again as well as taking part in the story too.
Attack on Titan – Dedicate Your Heart is currently accepting pre-registrations at their official site. For more updates, you can stay tuned to their official Facebook. Special thanks to Plextor who gave us the chance to attend TpGS 2018 live!
