Impulse Gaming Kuala Lumpur will be opening its doors this weekend and here’s what you can expect from Malaysia’s biggest gaming store.
Located at Sungai Besi, this new KL store will be their 9th retail across the country and spans over 10,000 sqft. Credit where credit’s due, they weren’t kidding when they said it’s big. There’s two different floors, with all sorts of products and merchandise that are available.
Before we start, Impulse Gaming General Manager Luke Eng gave us his statement in regards to the opening of Impulse Gaming Kuala Lumpur:
This year marks the 15th year that Impulse Gaming is in existence, a long time by any industry standards, but especially significant in the ever-changing dynamics of the video games industry. Today, we are very excited to finally be able to announce our 9th outlet at Chan Sow Lin Kuala Lumpur, the biggest video games store in Malaysia with over 10,000sqft, superseding our JB HQ! We have decided to spruce up the retail experience and to make it showroom-esque, with demos available for almost every product we have!
On the ground floor, there’s two areas where customers can take a look at. Taking a left right after the reception counter leads you to the main area where there’s a plethora of PlayStation and Nintendo games set on display shelves which can be purchased. The display shelves spans across the entire area, and pretty much easily doubles the size of what you’d normally see in a game store inside a mall.
Games weren’t the only things that were display on shelves though, as multitudes of TVs mounted on to display some of the games there. Additionally, there were also some limited edition PlayStation consoles that were put on display, like the PlayStation 4 Pro Star Wars Battlefront II Limited Edition, and the Uncharted 4 PlayStation 4 Limited Edition consoles. While it’s not for sale, it’s still fun to take a gander at these exclusive consoles.
Next to the display shelves are these “showroom-esque” sections of the store’s various partners: Pico, PlayStation, Logitech, Razer, Republic of Gamers, and MSI; where customers can head on over these demo sections and try out all sorts of different products from the brands, and even buy some of the products too while you’re at it.
This is just me personally speaking, but it feels like such a unique and cool concept, and it feels like each of the companies have like their own mini store set up with all their products put on display.
Turning right instead of left at the reception area will lead you to the cafe section where Impulse Gaming is partnering up with Chatto Cafe. There was a menu on display, and much to my surprise, the options there are pretty diverse. The cafe serves all sorts of beverages, from Ice Blended drinks, to Yogurt smoothies, to blended coffees, and more.
If you’re looking for something more than a drink, the cafe also serves various type of food too, from finger foods such as croissants, and sandwiches, to heavier and more filling food like Bentos, and Poke Bowls. While I personally didn’t get the chance to try out the food, they certainly look appetising to say the least.
In front of the cafe, there’s a section where all sorts of goodies and merchandises are up for sale. Most of the merchandise are pretty much Blind Boxes from all sorts of different IPs like Disney, Dark Souls, Tekken 7, World of Warcraft, Hatsune Miku, and much more. What’s cool about these blind boxes are that most of them are pretty uncommonly found in other stores, and it’s definitely worth checking out all the unique stuff there.
There’s also shelves that are filled with TCG cards, booster boxes, and packs for all the card game enjoyers out there. It’s a pretty vast range of TCG products too from your usual Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Vanguard, to Digimon and One Piece.
A part of the shop will be set aside for all sorts of gaming community events and gatherings, like weekly TCG meetups and even tournaments. Making the store a neat hangout place for you and your friends to mingle around with other people and have fun at the same time.
Going up the second floor, it just feels like a magical place to me. Rows upon rows of model kits, figurines and toys are put on the shelves and displays, which would most definitely tickle the fancy of every hobbyists out there. From model kits like Gundams, to figurines from various of franchises like Dragon Ball, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Kamen Rider, to toys such as Lego and of course, Pokemon.
There’s even an entire shelf just for Gundam customisation tools like Paint bottles, Gundam Marker Pens, and even accessories like the figure stands. They even have dedicated staff members to explain to you about Gunpla stuff, like what kind of model kit is best to start off with if you’re a beginner.
All in all, entering the place makes me feel like a kid entering a candy store for the first time and my eyes glister as I look through the rows and rows of vibrant and colourful candy. It feels like a magical experience, and honestly that’s all I could ask for. It’s filled with so much cool stuff and it’s definitely worth coming over to check it out for yourselves.
The Impulse Gaming KL store will be opening on the 29th April 2023 and will be having a Grand Opening promotion going on the 29th and 30th April 2023.
