Tearlaments Are Causing A Stir In The YuGiOh Master Duel Community

The tearlaments Archetype has finally made its debut in YuGiOh Master Duel– instantly rising to the top of tier lists with their powerful kits and synergy with other cards and drawing community ire.

Being an oppressive deck in the mainline TCG and OCG, many fans have taken to reddit and Twitter to complain about the inclusion of Tearlaments in Master Duel.

“I have played 3 games with Ishizu Tearlaments and I’m already sick and tired of this. This s**t’s insufferable, how did people like this?“, writes one Twitter user ChaoticMeatball.

“Bro tear needs to fucking die its so disgusting”, writes a redditor, Ralfgar09.

A lot of this frustration comes at one specific deck type in particular- combining Tearlaments with the Ishizu-themed cards, which both have a strong focus on sending cards to the graveyard for additional effects (Ishizu cards even let you target your opponent’s graveyard instead, robbing them of any utility).

“It’s Ishizus which push tear into absolute degeneration, special (sic) with the lack of Bystials to balance out the stakes a bit”, says another Twitter user, Giru017.

Tearlaments hate isn’t at consensus in the YuGiOh Master Duel community, however- Many fans had also pointed out how much of this was just par for the course every time a new strong archetype comes along.

Always A Bigger Fish

Master Duel has seen its fair share of strong archetypes making their way through- Despia decks had previously terrorized the meta, alongside SwordSoul and most recently, Sprights.

Some even took this opportunity to highlight incoming meta busters, such as the Kashtira archetype.

“Yeah. I’m pretty open here that I think Tear-Ishizu format is a disaster for Master Duel but Kashtira is the definition of an auto-pilot deck. Tears at least take some skill to run”, writes mightyneonfraa

The truth is that these kinds of reactions are just the natural order of how YuGiOh Master Duel works- YuGiOh is a game with a concrete set of rules, and the best cards will be designed around circumventing said rules.

Decks will get their time in the sun, until the point they become so oppressive that they need to be nerfed via updating the banlists, as was the case with cards like Crystron Halqfibrax
