Wizards of the Coast will be launching the Magic: The Gathering – March of the Machine set sometime this month and with it, comes new mechanics and even a brand new card type.
As the setting of March of the Machine concerns battles that are happening all across the Multiverse, March of the Machine will feature the most Showcase Art Style to date: All Showcase Frames from recent sets will appear alongside several brand new frames that represent additional planes. These showcase frames will primarily focus on Multiverse Legends, which are teams of Legendary creatures who are fighting against the Phyrexian invasion.
Not only that, March of the Machine will also introduce several new mechanics, one of which would be a new card type called Battle. The mechanic is described as, “Battles are a new type of dual-faced card: when you play a Battle, you pick an opponent to protect it. Similarly to Planeswalkers, Battles can be damaged or attacked and when they are defeated, flip into a powerful new card for free!”
Also featured is the creature-based mechanic Backup which allows players to add +1/+1 counters to creatures and gain additional abilities based on the creature giving the counter.
Users of the Phyrexian armada will also get to play with Incubators – artifacts that enter with a number of +1/+1 counters and can be turned into creatures by paying two mana.
March of the Machine will also see the return of both the Jumpstart and the Commander product lines with five exciting themes for Commander decks:
- Phyrexian Cats
- Zhalfir Knights
- Shaman Creatures
- Convoke Angels
- Gremlin Artifacts
And 5 new Jumpstart booster themes:
- Brood
- Overachiever
- Expendable
- Reinforcement
- Buff
Not only that, a new Halo Foil pattern will also be featured in March of the Machine and the pattern will only appear for Multiverse Legends cards in Collector Boosters.
Three unique promo cards will also be releasing in WPN stores to celebrate the launch of Magic: The Gathering’s March of the Machine.
The set is scheduled to launch this April 21st and will be available as Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, Collector Boosters, Jumpstart Boosters, Welcome Boosters, Commander decks, Bundles and a Secret Lair.
