A new video by VOMS Project creator Gyari has revealed that Pikamee was always going to have her graduation at the end of March, and was not actually a result of the harassment.
In the video, translated on YouTube by clipper Yura, Gyari explains that the graduation of Pikamee was actually decided “a long time ago”, saying that it was already factored into the negotiations of the VOMS PARK pop up shop with Marui.
“The fact that she would graduate was decided a long time ago”, he says. “Then, while we were in negotiations with Marui (the partner of the pop up store), we had a meeting where we informed them of it in an apologetic manner”.
“When we told them [about the graduation] Marui was like ‘If it’s a positive graduation then there is no issue!‘”, he says.
Pikamee’s graduation couldn’t have come at a worse time- the streamer went on hiatus for almost a month following harassment over playing Hogwarts Legacy, which many assumed was the cause.
Due to many boycotting Hogwarts Legacy over JK Rowling’s transphobic views (and the alleged ‘reason’ for the harassment), some people had taken news of the Vtuber’s retirement as open season that transphobia was suddenly acceptable behavior (It’s not).
While the answer might prove unsatisfactory to some, it looks like this really was just a case of a fairly normal business relationship- Pikamee wanted to quit, and it just so happens the last major thing before she announced it was a harassment-inducing controversy.
