The 2023 Pokemon World Championship will be held in Yokohama, Japan for the first very first time through the history of this esports event. The event will make its way to Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall from 11th August till 13th August.
The announcement of the venue was originally teased during the closing ceremony of last year’s Pokemon World Championship. The Pokemon Company is known for having different official artworks for the Pokemon World Championship; one honors the location the event is held. During the Pokemon Presents Livestream, we get a first look at the special artwork for this year’s Pokemon World Championship.
For the unfamiliar, the Pokemon World Championship is an annual esports event where Pokemon fans can come together to enjoy all things Pokemon. The event features a handful of Pokemon tournaments for games such as the mainline Pokemon games, Pokemon Training Card Game, Pokemon Go, and the newly added Pokemon Unite.
The 2023 Pokemon World Championship is the second event held outside of North America, first being London in 2022. There’s actually some significance in choosing Yokohama to be this year’s event location. Yokohama is the inspiration behind the design of Pokemon’s iconic Vermillion City in the Kanto region.
For those who can’t attend the event, you can tune into the official Pokemon Youtube Channel to catch the matches.
