The Pokemon Company has finally unveiled Pokemon Sleep, the latest in a series of Pokemon-themed lifestyle apps following the success of Pokemon Go.
The app is set to launch in Summer of 2023 for Android and iOS, and The Pokemon Company even gave a short presentation on how the game would work.
Pokemon Sleep is a game meant to record the player’s sleep functions, keeping track of when they go to bed and wake up using the phone’s microphone feature.
Using this data, it would then formulate a “sleeping type” based on the user, and spawn similarly matched Pokemon in the app, with the aim of players to be observing rare sleep types, such as a Pikachu whose ears droop while dozing off.
It should be noted that the title appears to be a Neko Atsume-type, where it’s not really about interacting with the Pokemon in any particularly meaningful way, rather just seeing which ones show up.
The game was originally announced in 2019, where it would have no meaningful updates for almost four years.
In addition they also announced a companion device, called the Pokemon Go Plus+, which would record the data without needing you to sleep with your phone on the pillow.
It also features connectivity with Pokemon Go, as well as a gimmick of a Pikachu that would sing you lullabies and wake you up in the morning.
