Lego is briefly bringing back Bionicle with a new set called ‘40581 BIONICLE Tahu & Takua’.
The new Tahu & Takua set will be available as a Gift With Purchase meaning that you will get them for free alongside a bigger set you order from Lego. In this case, from January 27th to February 9th (or while stocks last) they will be available with any LEGO purchase above £90 / $100 USD / RM432.50.
The set will see the iconic Bionicle characters Toa Tahu and Takua The Chronicler will be remade with traditional systems parts, including ball joints from Lego Mixels. The set also contains a lava surfboard acting as a base for Tahu. The set contains a total of 219 pieces.
Here is a closer look at the set via images from BrickNerd:
The two figures are based on the original 2001 Toa Mata Tahu figure and Takua Matoran figure that could be created using pieces from another set that were released at the time. The box for the piece likewise is an homage to the original Bionicle Toa Mata box.
Tahu is the leader of the original six Toa, the heroes of the Bionicle universe who must defend The Island of Mata Nui from the forces of the evil Makuta. Takua is another important character from the series who begins as a chronicler, meaning it’s his job to record the deeds and tales of the Toa.
