Rilakkuma will be diversifying further into mobile games with Rilakkuma Ranger. Rilakkuma Ranger – with a far longer name in Japanese – is a tower defense game set to launch February 2023. Pre-registrations are now available, offering rewards up to a modest 5000 users.
Players will be able to get:
- 1,000: 10,000 x Coins
- 3,000: 200 x Jewels
- 5,000: 1 x Gacha Ticket
The game and story themselves aren’t particularly complicated; it’s a tower lane defense game where you need to fight off waves of rogue toys using your own toy structures. From the preview screenshots, it looks like you’ll only be able to place your ‘towers’ at specific nodes in the lane. As you might expect, your towers have their own active skills. As you play, you’ll get to collect a variety of adorable Rilakkuma toys for your (virtual) shelves.
There will be a campaign to come where you can try to win yourself some of those Rilakkuma merchandise. As you might expect, both the relevant campaigns and the game release itself is currently only applicable to within Japan. Whether it would ever be available globally will have to be seen.
Abby Co. will be developing the game under San-X licensing, published by Imagineer. It has an official website and Twitter that you can check out for further updates.
