In a world premiere at The Game Awards, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza And The Lost Demon, a new spin-off action platformer has been announced.
Developed by Platinum Games, Bayonetta Origins will launch for the Nintendo Switch on the 17th of March 2023, less than six months after the release of Bayonetta 3.
Here’s a look at the announcement trailer:
“Turn back the pages of the Umbra Witch’s story to learn where it all began. Take control of Cereza and her first demon Cheshire to fend off faeries and solve puzzles when Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon releases on March 17, 2023, only on Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are available on Nintendo eShop after #TheGameAwards.”
The game shows a young Cereza before she fully becomes Bayonetta seemingly trying to locate her mother and become a full Witch in a world full of demons. Unlike the main series games, this one trades in the hack ‘n slash gameplay for 3D action platforming with puzzle elements. The game certainly plays more into the fairy tale aspect of Bayonetta that was present in the core games with a software watercolor-like art style.
You sort of know your series is popular when it starts getting spin-offs. It’ll be interesting to see how this builds on the world of Bayonetta, especially after how controversial the third entry was.
