PlayStation was kind enough to send us the God of War Ragnarok Collector’s Edition for the PS5.
With the final battle between Kratos and the Norse Pantheon coming out tomorrow on the 9th of November so here’s a quick unboxing of what you can expect in this lost Viking treasure of a collector’s edition.
The Collector’s Box
The first thing to note about the Collector’s addition is that the box is huge. When looking at the size of the casing one might assume it’s meant to hold a game console rather than a single game but in truth, there’s not even a game in here, only a code to redeem the game online. There are far greater gifts bestowed in this tomb. The front of the box shows us the simple silhouettes of our two protagonists Kratos and Atreus ready to face the world in front of them.
Taking off the external sleeves reveals a more age-appropriate casing. A beautiful ornate Viking gate covered in golden accents and carvings, replicating the Knowledge Keeper’s Shrine. The front of the gate opens to reveal a series of nordic runes and paintings of the Gods, perhaps hinting at events to come in the game itself.
The Gifts Inside
Opening to the top of the shrine reveals further treasure underneath. Players will be treated by three items: a Dwarven Dice Set, A steelbook display case (that doesn’t contain the actual game, it only comes as a code), and finally two in Vanir twin carvings.
Each object is highly detailed and fits perfectly within the world of the game. The bag of the multi-sided die has a grainy wood carved feel, truly looking like the tools that dwarves might use to play day-long quests of D&D with.
The two miniature Vanir statues likewise feel authentic to the time and culture. Who these two figures are if they are meant to represent two real people remains a mystery.
Finally, there’s the steelbook with looks cool and polished with the minimalist design of the lone wolf and his cub. The symbolism for Kratos and his son is apparent but we already know from previews that wolves will feature quite a bit in God of War Ragnarok, perhaps giving us some foreshadowing of the events to come.
Hammer Time
This brings us to the crown jewel of the God of War Ragnarok Collector’s Edition: the replica of Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir.
The Replica of Mjolnir is 16 inches long and made of hard plastic. Despite only being a replica, it’s only fairly heavy with a good amount of weight to it. You could probably give someone quite the concussion if you were to use it on their head (not that we’d recommend you do, leave that stuff for when you’re in the game).
God of War Ragnarok Collector’s Edition
We are very thankful to PlayStation for sending us such a packed Collector’s Edition with quite the haul of Viking memorabilia. We’ll see how each of these plays a part in the war to end all wars when God of War Ragnarok launches tomorrow for PS4 and PS5
