Forspoken New Trailer Dives into Frey’s Magic Abilities

Square Enix has revealed a new trailer for Forspoken, this time featuring the magic combat abilities that Frey can use to take on enemies.

In Athia, the setting of Forspoken, lies numerous beasts and threats from the Break that will constantly put Frey in danger. To combat them, Frey would need to master an arsenal of magical abilities that comes in multiple types.

These magics come with their own sets of attack, support and parkour skills with powerful upgrades that you can earn by collecting mana.

Earth Based Purple Magic is the first magic Frey can use at the start, allowing her to use earth spells such as:

• Shot – A quick attack that can be charged to deal more damage
• Burst Shot – Fires clusters of explosive rocks
• Shield Shot – Creates a defensive barrier while charging and explodes into smaller particles when released
• Scatter Shot – Unloads a steady stream of rocks and quickly triggers a high impact, long range projectile
• Prime – Sets up explosive traps
• Screen – Generates a force field
• Tendrils – Heals Frey based on how much damage is dealt

Cuff, Frey’s trusty sidekick that will aid her in her battles at Athia, provides support in numbers of ways:

• When Fey gets struck, Cuff will take the hit for Frey to reduce the damage dealt and create an opportunity for a counter attack
• Scan the area for nearby points of interest and potential threats
• Examine enemies to provide intel on their strengths and weaknesses

Frey will be able to use Fire-based Red Magic as she moves forward into the journey and it comes with its own arsenal of spells such as:

• Fusillade – Creates blades of fire that zooms in on enemies
• Aegis – Cloaks Frey in defensive fire
• Legion – Creates clones of Fire
• Slice – Quick Attack that summons a magical blade
• Arc Slice – A variation of Slice when it is charged up
• Blast – Throws the magical blade and explodes at enemies
• Rage Slice – Deals a flurry of fire attacks
• Charge – Cloak Frey in flames and charges at the enemies
• Bombadier – Kicks enemies away and infuses them in flames before erupting them

As Frey progresses on her journey, she will also be able to use Green and Blue Magic that comes with their own unique offensive and defensive capabilities.

When Frey uses attack and support spells, it will gradually charge Frey’s Surge Magic which when full, she can unleash powerful spells that can wipe out an entire opposing force in a blink of an eye.

In Forspoken, Frey can also deal a Killer Blow to end an opponent, a move that she can perform when the enemy is stunned on the ground

Master these spells and you can tailor Frey’s combat abilities to your own liking and take on anything, no matter what is thrown at you.

Forspoken is an action RPG game by Square Enix set to release for the PlayStation 5 and PC on January 24, 2023.
