Toho and Studio Khara have revealed a new crossover between Shin Godzilla and Evangelion in the form of a pachinko game called P Godzilla VS Evangelion ~G Cell Awakening~.
The game will feature a new story that will even see Shin Godzilla fuse with Eva Unit -01. You can check out the story trailer for the pachinko game below:
In addition to Eva-01 and Godzilla, the trailer also revealed that Rei Ayanami will be fusing with King Ghidora and Kowaru Nagisa will also be featured in the game.
Rei’s voice actress, Megumi Hayashibara, will also be performing two new songs, ‘Shuuketsu no Hate ni (At the End of the Gathering)’ and ‘Shuuketsu no Toki Territory (The Time of Gathering). Yoko Takahashi, the original singer of Evangeliion’s theme song ‘A Cruel Angels Thesis’ will also be producing a new song for the game called ‘Teardrops of Hope’.
So far Godzilla vs Evangelion has seen a mixed reception from international fans. The game looks great but it is of course a pachinko game. This means that it not only advocates for gambling but will likely never be released outside of Japan. Many of these fans have expressed their disappointment over social media. Many believe that the concept of Eva and Godzilla crossing over would be amazing if it just wasn’t a pachinko game:
Nice! Everyone wanted a Pachinko game, and absolutely nobody was asking for a live action movie, animated movie, or video game. 👌👌👌 https://t.co/XLUVEZ0U4g

Just a shame really cool stuff like this is wasted on pachinko instead of getting used in a video game or a movie.

While it may not make sense to us outside Japan, the truth is that pachinko games are far cheaper to make than full console/PC titles and can make millions in revenue. For example, Sega Sammy saw their profits surge in large part due to pachinko machines. We’re not saying that they’re a good or bad thing but there’s a reason why Japanese companies make so many of them.
