Nintendo has launched an official website for Nintendo Pictures, the company’s newly acquired movie division that will be used to make motion picture adaptations of their video game IPs.
The website, which is currently only available in Japanese is available here.
The message section of the website says the following:
“Nintendo Pictures is a film production company wholly owned by Nintendo Co. Nintendo’s characters are known to customers all over the world through video games. We aim to create unique images that will remain in the memories of our customers around the world.”
The about section further details that the production house currently has 105 employees with Hiroshi Hirokawa as representative director. The studio plans to start recruiting more employees this November.
The studio, formerly known as Dynamo Pictures was acquired by Nintendo earlier in July of this year. They have previously worked with Nintendo on a few projects including the cutscenes for Metroid Other M and the Pikmin Shorts that were released a few years ago for Wii U and 3DS.
The news of Nintendo acquiring the movie division coincides with the release of the upcoming Super Mario Bros movie being made in partnership with Illumination Entertainment. Nintendo Pictures does not seem to be working on the Mario movie however the acquisition does show Nintendo’s growing interest in making movie adaptations of their IPs.
