Hololive Releases Official MMD Models For Fanworks

Hololive has just released official MMD models of all of their Japanese talents, allowing fans to create derivative works with them.

The Hololive MMD models are basically at parity with the Hololy app– covering every generation of the main Japanese branch up to the latest sixth generation HoloX group.

You can download them from the official website, though it looks like you’ll have to download each of them one by one.

“We hope that creators will support our activities by creating derivative contents of Hololive, and that they will also contribute to the development of Hololive’s characters, which will spread beyond the borders of the country and gain recognition”, the statement on the website reads.

“We would like to thank you once again for contributing to the development of Hololive by creating derivative contents, which in turn have spread beyond national borders and gained recognition”.

While Cover Corp hasn’t mentioned if this would be updated in future to include the EN or ID branches, it’s safe to assume that HoloStars would eventually find their way too- given they’re also available on the Hololy app.

Of course, this does come with certain regulations– using the models is bound to the same restrictions as their fan work guidelines, which means no using the Vtubers for anything crude or offensive, and definitely not for commercial purposes.

Considering the vast amount of talent already creating Hololive content, this is a huge step forward- since a much larger selection of Vtubers is now available to work with.

MMD, also known by its full name- MikuMikuDance, is a popular piece of freeware that allows users to animate 3d models that also supports motion capture.
