At the recent Nintendo event, Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto came on screen and after briefly talking about the Mario movie, announced that Pikmin 4 will be launching next year for Nintendo Switch.
You can watch the teaser trailer for the game below on Nintendo’s youtube channel:
The teaser didn’t reveal a lot about the game however according to Miyamoto the game will involve viewing the world from the Pikmin’s perspective on the ground.
“Nintendo Switch has made controlling the game simpler, meaning you can concentrate on the core essence of Pikmin gameplay,” Miyamoto said. “We call it dandori in Japanese, or strategically planning, deploying, and commanding the Pikmin.”
The will be the first mainline Pikmin game since Pikmin 3 released for the Wii U in 2013. That being said, Pikmin 3 was later released for Switch as Pikmin 3 Deluxe. The series also received two spin-offs: Hey Pikmin for 3DS and Pikmon Bloom for mobile devices in the meantime.
Miyamoto actually announced Pikmin 4 was in development years ago in 2015, saying that the game was “close to completion” but nothing was seen of the game. Many assumed that it was vaporware or canceled but alas, here it is.
The Pikmin games are real-time strategy games where the player controls a Captain who in turn controls an army of plant-like creatures called Pikmin. The player must work with the Pikmin to defeat dangerous wildlife and collect various treasures.
Pikmin 4 will release in 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
