Fatal Frame IV: Mask of The Lunar Eclipse will be getting an HD Remaster for Nintendo Switch and other consoles. This will be the first time the game is launched outside of Japan.
The game does not have a confirmed release date but will launch in Early 2023.
Fatal Frame IV was originally released for the Nintendo Wii in 2008 but was never localized into English, although it did receive a fan-made transition patch later on. The game is notable for being co-developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and co-directed by Suda51, the creator of the No More Heroes games and Killer 7.
The story sees the protagonist Ruka Minzauki, a survivor of a kidnapping incident as a child return to the island she was taken to try and remember her childhood and why she was the only survivor when everyone else died.
Fatal Frame IV is a survival horror game where rather than shooting or running from the Ghosts that attack, you instead take their picture. Using a special camera called the Camera Obscura, you take pictures of the ghosts in order to exorcise them.
The closer you get to the ghosts the more effective the picture will be. Of course, this is also where it’s easiest for them to attack you, creating a horrific risk vs reward system.
Fatal Frame IV: Mask of The Lunar Eclipse will release for Nintendo Switch as well as the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023.
