After years of fan requests, the Assassin’s Creed series will finally take players to ancient Japan and allow them to live out the “Shinobi Experience” Assassin’s Creed “Red”. This was announced at the Ubisoft Forward Assasin’s Creed showcase.
This was not the only project announced however, another Assassin’s Creed project was announced called Assassin’s Creed “Hexe” (pronounced Hex-Aye). Both of these games will be part of the Assassin’s Creed Infinity project that was announced last year.
Codename Red
The new Assassin’s Creed project codenamed “Red” will be set in Feudal Japan, but no specific era is mentioned. As the name suggests the trailer is drenched in bright red colors with a katana-wielding shinobi jumping onto the roof, before revealing their hidden blade.
Codename Red is their next flagship premium title and will be the series’ next open-world RPG. This game is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, which is the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and under the creative direction of Jonathan Dumont who was the director and writer for Odyssey as well as writer for Immortals Fenyx Rising.
Codename Hexe
The team behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at Ubisoft Montreal is also working hard on another new flagship title. This project will be led by creative director Clint Hocking (Splinter Cell, Far Cry 2, Watch Dogs) and is looking to be a very different type of Assassin’s Creed, Codenamed “Hexe”.
very little was shown about the game but the trailer depicts a dark forest before the Assassin’s Creed logo made out of sticks and string appears. When the title screen appears, there’s some drawing on the back, an octagram with an unidentifiable language written on it.
From the title, teaser and logo, the game seems to be based on witchcraft themes, perhaps taking place during the European or American witch trials with a more horror-tinted edge. As of right now, nothing has been confirmed though.
Assassin’s Creed Infinity
Both Assassin’s Creed Red and Hexe will be part of the larger Assassin’s Creed Infinity project. A live service-type platform that will receive updates over time.
According to Marc-Alexis Côté, is not so much a game, as it is a single entry-point for fans to get into the future Assassin’s Creed titles. Senior Community Developer Alice terret likewise described being like “the player will be able to explore their very own Animus kind of like a time machine.”
Assassin’s Creed Infinity seems to be a hub that will unite all of the different Assassin’s Creed experiences and the players together under one application.
The developers further say that they are looking into how can they bring back standalone multiplayer experiences into the Assassin’s Creed universe, which will all be connected through Infinity.
Aside from Mirage, Ubisoft unveiled several new Assassin’s Creed projects at the showcase. These include the latest mainline game: Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla The Last Chapter, the final piece of DLC for the game, a new mobile game Assassin’s Creed Jade, and the announcement of an Assassin’s Creed Netflix show.
It has not been confirmed when Assassin’s Creed Infinity unity will launch however the two new Assassin’s Creed projects “Red” and “Hexe” will likely launch sometime after the release of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage
