The birthday celebrations for Tartaglia (also known as Childe) in Genshin Impact were underway yesterday, leaving us, international fans, with the bizarre gift of knowledge on what an Ecchi Belt is.
Excitement at the reveal of what Tartaglia wears under his coat hit a fever pitch with the release of his birthday illustration, with many fans describing the belt worn across his chest as an “ecchi belt”.
There was so much discussion around the belt-encased Harbringer that the word “[えっちベルト] lit. Ecchi Belt” was trending on Japanese Twitter.
“When you and Tartaglia were facing each other to eat, your face was too bright to look at, so you looked down and saw an ecchi belt, and when you looked away further down, you saw a belly flap, didn’t you? Don’t you know where to look? Oh, my God.”, writes Twitter user Sien0045.
One more has called for strict action from miHoYo, to remove all the jackets from the men of Genshin Impact and see just what other treasures they’re hiding:
Diluc was hiding his short sleeves, Tartaglia was hiding his ecchi belt, what the hell, take it off already!!!!!! All men of the original gods, take off your jackets: !!!!!!!! I’ll strip off, this stuff! This stuff !!!!! Don’t think you can hide it. !!!!!!!

According to Automaton Media, an ecchi belt is described as any superfluous belt whose sole purpose is to emphasize certain areas by wrapping around them. This is actually Tartaglia’s second such belt, with his original design already sporting one on the leg.
Those not in the Genshin circle also took advantage of the trend, posting photos of their own Ecchi Belts, like Hololive’s Hakui Koyori:

While some even more cultured folks have even gone one further, showing the progenitor of the Ecchi Belt: Greek God Apollo.
