Instead of a formal announcement or a leak, fans of the Yakuza series finally had the chance to see some footage of Ichiban in Yakuza 8. Note that Yakuza 8 is not the official title—developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and publisher Sega have not revealed the name of the 8th instalment of the franchise.
This was made possible by a video uploaded by mixed martial artist Mikuru Asakura, who visited the office and revealed the in-development footage of Yakuza 8 via a monitor in the office. Asakura, who will be facing off against Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition match in September later this year, will also be making an appearance in the game. You can check out the video below:
The tour begins at 9:00 of the video. You can catch a glimpse of Ichiban and the other Yakuza 8 cast at the 10:25 mark.
The most noteworthy trait of protagonist Ichiban in Yakuza: Like a Dragon is his afro-like hair. In the game, his hairstyle is a result of his hairstylist messing up. However, it appears that he’ll be sporting a ponytail. The video also shows a glimpse of fellow party members Yu Nanba and Koichi Adachi.
There is currently no release date for Yakuza 8. While waiting for more news about the game, you can check out our review of Yakuza: Like a Dragon if you aren’t familiar with the series.
