Malaysian indie game Kabaret will be receiving a new music video for its theme song, inspired by traditional and modern sounds called ‘Song of Mothers’.
The music video will be a collaboration between the game’s developers Persona Theory Games and Indonesian Ethnic Fusion Group SambaSunda.
This exclusive music video will be premiering in this year’s Save & Sound Event, an online music festival celebrating music from games this week from July 14 to July 17.
The song revolves around The Kabaret’s main character Jebat and his tumultuous relationship with his mother and struggles to break free of her expectations.
It is supposed to encapsulate the dark themes of The Kabaret visual novel which sees Jebat waking up in a monstrous new form and being brought to the titular Kabaret, a place where various monsters from Southeast Asian folklore gather.
SambaSunda is an Indonesian fusion band from Bandung in Western Java. Their theme for The Kabaret, Song of Mothers will use the traditional Indonesian instrument the gamelan alongside more contemporary instruments. The tune of the song will have the same dark and forbidding tone that the game will have.
