Cos-Mic Cancelled On Day 2, Prompting Fan Outrage

Malaysia saw another new convention this weekend with the Cos-Mic convention, though the supposed two-day event was abruptly cancelled the morning of the second day.

In a statement on Facebook, the organizers of Cos-Mic didn’t give a reason for the event to be cancelled, only describing the cause as being unforeseen circumstances.

“After a very successful event day yesterday, the event will however have to be closed on Sunday (today) due to unforeseen technical difficulties”, they said. “With your support, we will be back with a bigger and more impactful event“.

Some of the artist alley booth operators did complain about the sudden closure, saying they’d made bookings with customers for the second day, to which the organizers did mention that they would get their 50% refund for the sudden closure.

However, regular attendees also took to the Facebook page to berate the organizers for ending the event so abruptly.

“Some of us took extra leaves from work for this event. Nak balik rumah, we already booked hotel until tomorrow /sigh“, writes one Facebook user.

While no official reason was given for the closure, many are suspecting it has something to do with the massive crowd- similar to AnimeFest several weeks earlier, the return to anime conventions has been pulling way larger crowds than most mall venues can handle.
