It’s no secret that Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki likes Berserk- its influence can be found all along the Souls series from more subtle ways like the game’s Greatsword to the more blatant designs like the Hunter’s Mark in Bloodborne.
Naturally, fans had been speculating if Miyazaki had hidden any more Berserk easter eggs in Elden Ring- given the huge open world, it’s the prime spot to sneak in a reference to the legendary fantasy manga, especially following the passing of Kentaro Miura last year.
While it’s not 100% confirmed, fans have speculated one such location- located right next to Castle Morne on the southernmost tip of the Weeping Peninsula, simply following the road all the way down will take you to this place.
If you head to Castle Morne on the Weeping Peninsula, you may notice a graveyard to the left of the castle. This graveyard is full of swords, poking out from the ground including one massive one with a hilt seemingly wrapped in bandages.
This huge sword also contains an inscription on it, which reads as follows:
The Siege of Castle Morne
A Lone Hero fights for his Vengeance
Only to fall at the hands of Lord Godfrey
The single line about a swordsman out for vengeance could very well be read as a reference to Berserk protagonist Guts, especially considering it’s inscribed on a massive sword, another iconic feature of the fantasy manga protagonist.
The graveyard itself might also be a reference to the Hill of Swords- an in-universe tribute by side character Rickert to fallen members of the Band of the Hawk.
That being said, it’s far from the only such graveyard in the game. At least one more exists in the world, with a message referencing a battle ni the Caelid Wilds.
Still, given the other overt references to Berserk and the overall low importance of Castle Morne to the game’s overall plot, it’s very likely that the team at From Software threw this easter egg in to mark the passing of Kentaro Miura.
