Gacha game anime adaptations have been announced pretty frequently as of late, with games like Arknights and Azur Lane getting new anime. In this week’s issue of the GamerBraves Newsletter, we’ll be exploring this trend of gacha games getting their own anime.
It’s to no one’s surprise that gacha games make a lot of money. Games like Fate/Grand Order and Uma Musume Pretty Derby frequently make the top 10 list of top mobile games in terms of revenue. With the gacha formula already so successful, why would gacha game companies invest so much money to create an anime when it’s less profitable than running the games themselves?
Developing a full season of anime costs tonnes of manpower and resources. Unlike the microtransaction-filled free-to-play games, anime does not bring in that much revenue. Traditionally, anime helped to generate profit by increasing manga or light novel sales, but in the case of gacha games, this doesn’t apply.
While it may seem like a less-than-stellar business decision at first, there is a good reason why more and more gacha games are getting their own anime. Subscribe to our newsletter below to understand why gacha games are evolving into multimedia franchises.
