Two weeks ago, Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard in an acquisition that shook the gaming world—but what does it mean for SEA gamers? SEA (Southeast Asia) is one of the fastest growing markets for gaming and it’s also the region that we’re looking at in this week’s issue of the GamerBraves Newsletter.
Valued at 68.7 billion USD, the Microsoft – Activision Blizzard deal is the biggest acquisition in the history of video gaming. Microsoft’s gaming arm, Xbox, will gain a huge roster of studios and IPs. From Activision’s Call of Duty to Blizzard’s Diablo, Starcraft and Overwatch and even King’s Candy Crush, Microsoft is set to become the third biggest video game company in the world (in terms of revenue) once the deal is completed sometime in 2023.
As for those of us in SEA, Activision Blizzard may just be what Microsoft’s needs to gain a stronger foothold in the region. The combination of new expertise and IPs carry immense potential for the Windows maker.
