Upin & Ipin, a popular Malaysian cartoon became a hot topic in Indonesia after the graves of both titular characters were supposedly found. A viral Tik Tok video from user itz.me.andin012 earlier this week made waves online.
@itz.me.andin012 jadi ginih yah ceritanya,maaf karna cara bicaranya kurang lancar🙏#fyp #viral #xybca #upinipin
According to the video, Upin and Ipin were in fact, real people who passed away in a road accident. The video proposes the theory that the events that took place in the Upin & Ipin cartoon are the hallucination of Opah, the twin’s grandmother who had to deal with the aftermath of their deaths.
Accompanying this theory are the graves of Upin and Ipin. The tombstones, which are believed to be located in Indonesia, reveal that Upin has passed away on August 6th 1995, while Ipin passed away a year later on 2nd April 1996.
The story gained tremendous traction in Indonesia and even trended on Twitter.
The spread of the speculation resulted in the studio behind Upin & Ipin, Les’ Copaque Production, to come forward and offer an explanation. The studio stated that Upin & Ipin is purely a work of fiction and is not based on any person, living or dead.
