We got our hands on the Razer Seiren V2 Pro as well as the Razer Seiren V2 X- two excellent microphones for the streamer in your life .
Skill aside, a microphone is arguably the most important part of one’s streaming career. Bad audio quality can be a quick turn-off for lots of listeners, and Razer knows that.
Razer Seiren V2 Pro – The Prima donna (RM729)
Compared to its counterpart the V2 X, the Razer Seiren V2 Pro feels like the embodiment of bigger is better. It’s got a fair bit more heft to it than the X counterpart, but feels a lot better to use as a result of it.
The main appeal for the Razer Seiren V2 Pro is that it just sounds good to record on. Using a combination of its high-pass filter and high quality audio drivers, sounds recorded on the Razer Seiren V2 Pro feel crisp and clear, even sounding like they were recorded in a studio instead of in an apartment.
This makes it great for any kind of vocal-based recording- if you’re a budding streamer or podcaster, you’re gonna have a great time with the Razer Seiren V2 Pro.
It also has way more features to play to this, too. The microphone comes with built in shock absorbers and windsocks- these will prevent the microphone from picking up lots of unnecessary noises, like accidentally tapping your table too hard in the middle of a heated match.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of the mic monitoring function- if you’re running any kind of professional setup, you’ll want a live preview of how you sound that doesn’t require you to export a sample first. It’s a great tool for any creator, especially one planning to do livestreams.
Out of the box, you might run into some trouble if you try to use it for any kind of musical recording, however. That filter means lower frequency instruments like a bass might lose out, but don’t fret- these settings can all be adjusted via the Razer Synapse app- so you’ll be able to adjust it for the scenarios you want whether you’re delivering sick burns or playing some tasty jams.
All That Quality Takes Space
The one downside of the Razer Seiren V2 Pro is that it is markedly bigger than its X counterpart. While your first instinct might be to nest it between your arms while streaming, expect the Pro to get in the way for this.
Instead, think of its position on your desk more like those late-night talk show hosts, who have a microphone off to the side. As long as you have the microphone pointed in your general direction, you won’t have to worry too much about the quality drop and you’ll have the added advantage of actually seeing the game screen.
It’s also by far the more handsome of the two microphones, sporting two very stylish knobs on either side of the mic that also allow the mic to swivel. It’s not a full 360 degrees thanks to the cable, however- but it’s definitely good enough to make sure you’re pointing your microphone in the right direction.
Razer Seiren V2 X
On the other hand, the Razer Seiren V2 X provides many of the same features as its Pro counterpart, albeit in a smaller package and more economic pricepoint.
There’s not a lot different from the two aside from a slightly less crisp audio- but even then it’s still a pretty amazing audio quality. Voices sound incredibly crisp and clear, though you will need to care about your setup a little more since things like echoes will still be picked up a little.
I’m also a big fan of the size of the Razer Seiren V2 X- unlike the bulkier Pro, the X is perfectly fine to nestle in between your arms while you game, since it’s small enough that it won’t get in the way of most computer displays.
Aside from that, it still has a multitude of quality of life features such as the easily accessible gain and mute buttons on the microphone to make sure you won’t have to go rummaging through menus if you suddenly feel a grisly burp coming on or need to adjust your volume to let people hear your cat purring more clearly.
I’m also a big fan of the shock absorbers- these are for filtering out more unsightly noises like bumps, perfect for the gamer who might put a bit too much time into gaming to maintain a tidy workstation. It ensures easy access to a high quality audio presentation, which can make all the difference for the viewer just tuning in to the stream.
Closing Thoughts
All in all, the Razer Seiren V2 series are some great pieces of tech for the gamer with discerning tastes in audio equipment. Admittedly they run a little steep- the V2 Pro sits at RM729, so maybe only consider that if you’ve already committed to streaming and want a great piece of audio equipment.
On the other hand the V2 X will set you back RM489, which is a little above your average condenser mic prices. You definitely get your value in money, since it’s an amazing piece of tech, but that also makes it a great gift for that person in your life who’s just getting into streaming.
