Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Might Get Rollback In A Future Update

This week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu includes a special feature on the re release of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, including information on whether or not the game would feature rollback netcode.

While the netcode used in the re release of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was never revealed before this, it looks like it will not launch with rollback netcode.

“We’re considering implementing a rollback feature in a later patch.”, says Kazuhisa Wada, Creative Director and Producer for the Persona Team.

“This is the final version of the game, and we’re focusing on releasing it as the definitive version of the P4U series, where you can enjoy (almost) everything, including battles, the story, and downloadable content”, he said.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will release on March 17th for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC.

The Benefits of Adding Rollback Netcode to Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Rollback netcode has been considered one of the most important features for fighting game re-releases.

Briefly, the netcode facilitates smoother gameplay over longer distances by predicting frames and changing, or “rolling back” whenever it guesses wrong.

This allows for each player’s inputs to feel more responsive, since the alternative (delay-based) messes up your input timing.

Getting rollback netcode implemented has been one of the big sticking points of the fighting game community. After fan support got Guilty Gear Strive to adopt the netcode, way more games have since picked it up, including titles like Melty Blood Type Lumina and King Of Fighters XV.

Even older games have gotten the rollback treatment too, with Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R and Blazblue Centralfiction sporting increased playerbases after the netcode was implemented.
