Capcom’s Mega Man is getting a live-action movie from live streaming service Netflix. IGN states that the project is very early in development however a few details have come through.
Netflix themselves have yet to confirm that they are working on the Mega Man adaption however the company working on the production Supermarche has let the partnership slip in a recent website update.
The website states that “Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman, and their in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss maintain an active development slate. Features in the works include an adaptation of Capcom’s Mega Man which they wrote and are directing”.
The duo has previously worked on Paranormal Activity 3 and 4, and they would go on the direct the techno-thriller ‘Nerve’ (2016) and Superhero film ‘Project Power’ (2020) which was also released on Netflix.
A Mega Man live-action movie was actually first announced in 2018 shortly after the release of Mega Man 11 with Joost and Schulman confirmed as to write and direct. This latest website update confirms that the film is still being worked on.
While the term ‘video game adaption’ or ‘Netflix adaptation’ generally don’t have the most positive connotations in recent years, we should remember the recent adaptations of video games like Castlevania, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Pokemon: Detective Pikachu have been well received by fans and critics alike. A Mega Man movie could turn out really good if handled right.
