Welcome to a Granblue Fantasy Beginner Progression guide. While it’s basically a browser game, its years of service has changed it from its initial release, and accordingly, the power level has also creeped along. Do peruse our resources guide here, which treads some similar ground, as a companion.
WHEN TO START?
The best time to make an account is during Premium Gala or Flash Gala periods. Not only do you start during a double SSR rate up period – from 3% normal rates to 6% – you will also have Gala-limited characters in the pool. This is important if you ever decide to spend money in the game on the Beginner’s Draw Set.
Premium Gala tends to happen end of a month, while Flash Gala is roughly middle of the month. They each contain different Gala-limited characters.
The Beginner’s Draw Set will contain a 10-draw Ticket, and One character of your choice. This selection is fixed based on date of account creation. The Beginner’s Draw Set will include any seasonal (e.g. Valentine, Christmas, etc.) if they were also in the draw pool. The Beginner’s Draw Set is purchasable Once, and will return monthly until bought.
MAKING AN ACCOUNT
You can start by heading over to the website and scroll down to set the language to English.
Read through the story and tutorial or skip them entirely if you prefer. You will eventually need to link your account to mobage, DMM Games or Yahoo! Japan. mobage is easiest as you can just link a Google account. Do note if you want to make more accounts, you will need separate emails for each.
THE FIRST 10-DRAW
Your first 10-draw will be guaranteed 1 SSR, 9 SR / R. In a game like this, you should pick out an element you like then go from there. In the mean time, you will get one of the following SSRs:
CHARACTER | ELEMENT | COMMENTS |
---|---|---|
ZETA | FIRE | Has 5-star uncap. Has long term viability, though base level might be lacking when compared to others in her element. |
CARMELLINA | WIND | Has no 5-star uncap at time of writing. Can be quite good for beginners, but as you go later game, she will probably fall off. Mirror Image, for one, can already be obtained from Tiamat Omega's 4-star upgrade. |
MELLEAU | EARTH | Has 5-star uncap. Very simple kit to encourage taking and dishing out hits, but probably will get replaced before level 100 as she doesn't have the self-sustain early game. |
CHARLOTTA | WATER | Has 5-star uncap. Kit is quite simple, offering early game defensive options with some damage. Self-stacking buff lets her power up over longer fights if she doesn't get hit. |
DE LA FILLE | LIGHT | Has 5-star uncap. Offers healing and mirror image to dodge single-target attacks from enemies. Would be better at max level, of course, for improved support. |
LADY GREY | DARK | Has 5-star uncap. Offers useful debuffs throughout the game if you haven't already gotten any of the other absurdly powerful Dark characters. |
THINGS TO DO
With the introduction of the Goals and Missions to Granblue Fantasy, a beginner should use them as a guide for progression. Wind is often touted as the “most beginner friendly” element, so you could try starting from there.
Choose an element’s basic Omega build from the Goals tab in Equipment Templates, which will be your free-to-play starting point. Use these builds as references rather than absolutes, to get you to a basic working grid to start farming everything else. Missions provide additional rewards, as you might expect.
Clear out the Pinboard Missions and the Side Stories you can find under the Gameplay Extras tab. Side Stories not only offer more lore, but also currency and tickets for the gacha, equipment and summons among other resources. If you’ve linked a Twitter account, you can refresh your AP / EP to full once a day with a tweet.
If an event is on-going, trying to clear out the Daily Missions will also be helpful. Events with Token boxes have premium currency and Power-up Rings in their draw boxes that you may also want to obtain where possible. Depending on the event, Token boxes can contain SSR Guaranteed Tickets or Golden Gifts that contain a variety of rewards.
Finding a crew will be highly recommended as not only will you get other players you can ask help from, but also buffs in the form of passive elemental attack increase from a selected Crew Ship, Crew Skills and Strike Time. Add them as friends so that you can use their Support Summons too (elaborated below).
For bonus loot possibilities, look out for these “extra drop” events available for a selection of raids for, well, more drops.
SET UP AND MENUS
Access your Profile from the top-right Menu button. Pop in any helpful summons you may have in the slots, so that anyone who is friends with you may use them. Set a Star Character to display them on your profile and give them slight stat increases.
From your Homescreen, hit the Town arrow on the right. You can find some materials and premium currency if you hit the nodes in the right order. You can find them on the Granblue fan wiki.
If you need to track any specific drops, you can click / tap on the item on the Victory screen, or find them in the Supplies tab when you open the top-right Menu and Favorite them. You can set how many you require and they will appear at the bottom of your screen.
Should you find yourself low on storage space, things that are in the No Limit section of your Crate will not expire, so that you don’t need to worry about taking them out.
From the Settings menu, the following are recommended to be turned on:
- Battle
- Summon Animation Speed: SKIP
- Skill Usage Notification: DISPLAY

As a beginner in Granblue Fantasy, it’s often very helpful to find a friend to be a guide, and it can be daunting if you feel that there is a lot of things that you need to learn. Most importantly, prioritize on your characters and getting those weapon builds set up. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RUSH YOUR RANK thinking the higher rank raids will get you better things as they tend to have minimum contribution requirements for a chance at better rewards.
Whenever you decide to start for some collab or free rolls, remember to have fun, and good luck.
