Before shutting down all the Gundam Cafe outlets in Japan, Bandai is having one last hurrah for the project that will run effective 3 December 2021. The “Thank You Gundam Cafe” campaign will comprise special menus, attractions and of course, merchandise.
Specifically, the one in Akihabara will offering a menu which recreates the meals eaten by characters in various Gundam shows, including and not limited to a pizza Domon Kasshu had in G Gundam, a hot dog eaten by Setsuna in Gundam 00, bread which Amuro Ray had ordered at a restaurant in the desert town and Bright Noa’s burger.
In addition, Bandai will also be selling a bunch of memorial goods such as coaster mats and magnet badges, featuring, again, various characters from the enormous Gundam franchise. There are a total of 24 of them, so be sure to collect them all or at least your favourites.
Lastly, Bandai will be holding special G Dimensions EX Dinner Shows at the various outlets, which each of them running for about 90 minutes each.
As previously reported, the themed cafes built around Mobile Suit Gundam are going to close all across Japan early next year. In an announcement on the Gundam Cafe website, they announced that the Odaiba Gundam Cafe, as well as Gundam Tokyo Brand Core in Akihabara and Fukuoka Gundam Cafes would be closing their doors on January 30th. Meanwhile, the Gundam Factory Yokohama cafe will be closing its doors when the Gundam Factory itself shuts down in March of 2022. This follows the closure of the Dotonbori Gundam Cafe in Osaka, which closed earlier this year. The remaining store in Osaka, Gundam Square, will also close on January 10th of 2021.
