Chrono Cross, Square Enix’s cult classic RPG, could be getting an HD Remaster for multiple consoles which may be announced later in December nearing Christmas.
According to Éabha McMahon, an Irish Folk singer, she was asked to record a song for a ‘big remake’ for the holiday season that Playstation was going to announce.
Now XboxEra’s Nick Baker has said on his latest podcast that he has been told that this holiday title is a remaster of Square Enix’s PS1 RPG Chrono Cross.
A Chrono Cross Remaster had already appeared on the Nvidia list of leaked games.
He also says that despite being it supposedly being announced by Playstation, it will be a multiplatform title. He assumes it is likely there will likely be a Switch and PC version as well since most RPG remasters tend to be ported to those systems.
“Chrono Cross Remastered, I think, was already on the Nvidia leak list, so the game shouldn’t be a surprise – it was on Nvidia’s list. But I was told that that VGC article is about Chrono Cross Remastered,”
“What else I was told—because everyone’s working under the assumption that it’s a PlayStation exclusive—I’ve been told that it’s not. The only word that was used was ‘multiplat’.
“Now, when I hear JRPG and multiplat, I automatically assume PC, PlayStation, Switch, that’s my assumption. That’s not what I was told, that’s just my assumption. All my source said to me was ‘multiplat’. That’s what they said, they told me it wasn’t PlayStation exclusive.”
“But I think there’s confusion because it says that PlayStation is set to announce it, so everyone just works under the assumption that PlayStation is announcing something that would exclusive, which they don’t always do. Pragmata isn’t exclusive, they’ve announced plenty of stuff.
“But again, I don’t know if Xbox is one of those platforms. I work under the assumption that it’s not because it’s a JRPG.”
Chrono Cross was originally released for the PS1 as a loose sequel to the Super Nintendo RPG Chrono Trigger. It has since been ported to the PS3/PSP PlayStation Classics but is yet to be available on any modern console.
