Three beloved Mario titles from the Game Boy era are set to arrive on Nintendo Switch Online this week as announced by Nintendo.
Announced as part of the Mario Day celebration, Dr Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online’s Game Boy library on March 12, 2024.
Released in 1990 for both the Game Boy and NES, Dr. Mario was a falling block puzzle game where players aim to eliminate viruses with vitamins.
It was a commercial success, with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide across all platforms, and later spawned multiple re-releases and a spin-off starring Mario’s brother as Dr. Luigi.
Meanwhile, this version of Mario Golf was originally released on Game Boy Color in 1999 and is the second entry in the Mario Golf series, introducing role-playing elements.
Lastly, we have Mario Tennis for the Game Boy Color, originally launched in 2000 and is the second entry in the Mario Tennis series, which also marked Waluigi’s first appearance.
This entry of Mario Tennis also features a Story mode called Mario Tour, where you can choose either youngsters Alex or Nina and assist them to rise up the ranks at the Royal Academy.
As mentioned, these games will be available as part of the Switch Online subscriptions alongside other Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles already in the library.
Aside from these games coming to Switch online, the Mario Day celebration also unveiled many exciting new announcements, including the confirmation of a new Super Mario Bros. Movie currently in production.
